Fine Wooden Boats

Here at Fine Wooden Boats, we specialize in working with all manner of classic boats, from the smallest dinghies to motor launches.

We provide a complete boat care, repair and restoration service; from basic preventative maintenance up to full scale, show quality restoration, and always with the highest quality of workmanship and dedication to precision.

Our work is carried out using a mix of modern and traditional methods and materials with a view to breathing new life into your boat, whilst retaining the integrity of the original build.

Having worked on a wide variety of craft, from steam and electric launches to classic Riva motor launches, we can guarantee you quality service and an aftercare package to suit your needs.

About Us

The team is led by Tom Neale. Tom served a full five year woodworking apprenticeship in fine furniture making and trained for a further three years as a boat builder at the renowned Matteri Yard, Lake Como, Italy.

If you have a boat in need of restoration then please contact us so that we can discuss your needs in detail. Normally the client will be responsible for the delivery and collection of the boat to and from the workshop. Depending on the size of the boat and the distance from Huntingdon, we may be able to assist at a reasonable cost.

Our Work

Restoration

The focus of Fine Wooden Boat is the restoration of all types of classic boats, no matter what state the craft is currently in. We will take an overview of the vessel's state and advise you on what needs to be replaced or renovated and how we will proceed.

Repair

Our workshop facilities allow us to repair, rebuild and even fabricate replacement parts where required. The Gallery pages show examples of some of the projects we have completed.

New Build

Although the main work is restoration, Tom has built many boats.  The largest being the Super Launch shown at the 2016 London Boat Show. Built from the finest materials, this is probably the best river launch ever made in the UK.

Super Launch photos are  in the gallery and more detail is here

Custom Parts

The picture above is an example of our custom manufacturing work. We needed to replace a Riva part that was no longer available. The result is indistinguishable from new.

We can fabricate and renovate using a variety of materials and techniques to match client specifications for a multitude of projects.
For example we cast fittings in bronze, mould fibreglass and shape wood using both air presses and fine carpentry.
